friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart. My Rating: ★★★★★ We Are Okay is a very poetic, and thoughtful book that had me thinking about every aspect of it. I loved how Nina LaCour thinks every little thing out in this story. Before you continue to read my review, I would like to preface it by saying that the less you know about this book, the better. It's best not to know much about it, and just dive right in. So, there are no spoilers coming up, but I feel it's best to just read it for yourself. :) Warning: Spoilers ahead! I loved this book so much. It was really nice to see a YA book that provoked so much thought and emotion out of me. The way LaCour just pours heart and soul into this novel is really beautiful. First of all, I really liked the setup of this book, where it would jump from the present, at Marin's college, to the last summer with her grandpa's house. It let the author build suspense and start filling in the picture without doing too much at one time. The gradual answering of questions was really well done, and let the tone of the book be very consistent. I also really enjoyed how complex every character was. There wasn't a character in this book without a backstory or complex traits. This is another thing that is very small but really adds a lot to the story. My favorite part about this book was how it kept me guessing the entire way through the story. There were multiple times where I thought I had it figured out, and every time I was wrong and had to keep guessing. What did you think of We Are Okay? Let me know in the comments below! As she searches for another thoughtful book. Ashton I wish you more happiness than can fit in a person. ― Nina LaCour, We Are Okay
