Summer is Here!

Another month, another issue of Precommendations! June brings us summer, adventures, and of course, new books! Summer is one of my favorite reading seasons, because not only is there more time to read, the books also reflect what I'm doing in real life. So, without further adieu, here are the books that I'm looking forward to the most in June.

Words in Deep Blue, by: Cath Crowley

       This is a love story.
It's the story of Howling Books, where readers write letters to strangers, to lovers, to poets.
It's the story of Henry Jones and Rachel Sweetie.
They were best friends once, before Rachel moved to the sea.
Now, she's back, working at the bookstore, grieving for her brother Cal and looking for the future in the books people love, and the words they leave behind.
I am really excited about this new contemporary release. It's about a girl who had a crush on the boy she worked with at a bookstore years ago. She moves away for a while, but when she returns, she goes back to the bookstore to work with Henry again. And then I assume through a few shenanigans, they fall in bookish love and I get that happy feeling on the inside. This book sounds AMAZING! Bookstores, books, love, what's not to enjoy? (Also the fact that the cover is literally a bunch of open books. I need a copy. Now.)

Follow Me Back, by: A.V. Geiger

Tessa Hart’s world feels very small. Confined to her bedroom with agoraphobia, her one escape is the online fandom for pop sensation Eric Thorn. When he tweets to his fans, it’s like his speaking directly to her…
Eric Thorn is frightened by his obsessive fans. They take their devotion way too far. It doesn’t help that his PR team keeps posting to encourage their fantasies.
When a fellow pop star is murdered at the hands of a fan, Eric knows he has to do something to shatter his online image fast—like take down one of his top Twitter followers. But Eric’s plan to troll @TessaHeartsEric unexpectedly evolves into an online relationship deeper than either could have imagined. And when the two arrange to meet IRL, what should
have made for the world’s best episode of Catfish takes a deadly turn…
Can I just say, this sounds like a cutesy romance novel turned down Knockturn Alley. It's about a teen pop star who is terrified of his fans, especially after a fellow star is murdered by one of his own fans. He starts stalking one of his superfans online, and they arrange to meet in person. I love the concept of this story, and I am very excited to get my hands on it. Goodreads also informs me that the book will also be told through tweets, direct messages, and police reports. I give that a big thumbs up.

Summer Unscripted, by: Jen Klein

Girl looks for a sign. Enter: boy.
Rainie doesn’t have a “passion” like her friends do. She’s more of a dabbler—quick to give up and move on. But as graduation approaches, she wishes she had more direction. So when gorgeous Tuck gives a monologue that literally puts into words exactly how she’s been feeling lately, it’s a sign! Tuck is her passion. How could she not have seen it before?
Girl follows boy. Enter: second boy.
Rainie convinces her ex-BFF to let her work at the same summer job as Tuck. She’s got a foolproof plan to date him. But when she arrives, Rainie discovers things aren't that simple. And she meets Milo, a super-cute boy who also works with her. A boy with a complicated
past.
Girl needs to figure stuff out. Enter: drama.
Another book that sounds adorable! (I get in a contemporary mood this time of year. Don't worry, it will go away eventually.) I love the fact that this has a script/play vibe to it. (Although I don't think it is actually written in script form. Darn) It's about a girl who has a new crush on a boy the summer before her senior year. She applies for a summer job with him, she meets another boy who has a complicated past. This book sounds like the perfect read to chill out on the beach and just relax with.

One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by.
