Hamilton Book Tag

1/13/2019

I went to see Hamilton last week since my parents gave me tickets as a Christmas gift, and it was just as amazing as I could’ve dreamed. So, when I stumbled upon this tag, I knew it would be the perfect post for this week. Nothing makes me happier than combining my love of books and theatre. Make sure you check out my other dramatic posts at the end of this one!
(Also beware of the last three songs for spoilers!)

The Room Where it Happens:
A book world in which you would place yourself…

Warcross by Marie Lu
The futuristic world of Warcross is full of terrific technology and virtual reality, which is my favorite kind of world to read. The worlds Marie Lu creates is just far enough into the future that it is awe-inspiring while retaining a bit of realism, too. It’s definitely one of my favorite books, and I can’t wait to read Wildcard!

The Schyler Sisters:
An underrated female character…

Donnatella Dragna from Legendary by Stephanie Garber
I feel like when people discuss the Caraval series, Tella doesn’t get as much love as she deserves. Scarlett is the heroine of Caraval, but Legendary takes a different point of view with Tella in the limelight. She is such a unique character, and her adventure within the world of Caraval is one that shouldn’t be overlooked.

My Shot:
A character that goes after what they want and doesn’t let anything stop them…

Endgame: The Calling by James Frey

This song perfectly describes every character in The Calling. This book was on my TBR for a long time because it was so intimidatingly huge. What I didn‘t expect was to FLY THROUGH IT AND ALL ITS GLORY. Everyone in this book is fighting for their people to be the line that survives, and it is so smart and full of action. I cannot wait to read the second and third books.

You’ll Be Back:
Sassiest villain…

Half Bad by Sally Green
I read this book sooooooo long ago, but one of the elements I do remember is the amount of sass Nathan has throughout the book. This book is more of a villain origin story, which provides for lots of great opportunities to explore the mind of a villain, and maybe even take their side in the situation.

Non-Stop
A series you marathoned…

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Last semester, I barely had any time to sit down and read a physical book, but every day in my art class, I would listen to the Twilight books as I worked. They were perfect for keeping me entertained for a portion of the day, but marathoning the audiobooks was probably against my better judgment. You can only listen to the same voice reading Bella’s stupid choices before getting a little annoyed… But, overall they were great to hear!

Satisfied:
Favorite book with multiple POVs…

I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
This was another book I avoided reading. The first time I tried to read it, I had a hard time following the multiple POVs and the fantastical imagination of the narrators. The second time I picked it up, though, I absolutely adored it. It’s a beautiful tale about finding yourself and finding your way back to a friendship.

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story:
A books series that would be remembered throughout history…

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling
    It’s HP. Enough said.

Helpless:
A relationship you rooted for from the start…

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This book was the first LGBTQ+ rep book I’d ever read, and I absolutely loved it. Aristotle and Dante are such a cute couple, and there is no way to not root for them throughout the book.

Ten Duel Commandments:
Favorite fight scene…

The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
Whenever I think of fight scenes, I always think of the one at the end of The Warrior Heir between Jack and Ellen. I don’t remember much of the details, but I remember reading it and thinking how epic it was.

Say No to This:
A guilty pleasure read…

Ship It by Britta Lundin
Every person who is part of a fandom needs a nerdy guilty pleasure read, and Ship It is mine. There are so many relatable moments about loving fictional worlds and the people who bring them to us, so if you haven’t picked up this book, I highly recommend it.

What Comes Next:
A series you wish had more books…

Obsidio by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
This trilogy is so incredibly smart, and I was so sad to see the last book come out. I don’t know of any books that take storytelling to such a unique level, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I reread them. I just can’t get enough.

Right Hand Man:
Favorite BROTP…

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
All of Cassie’s books feature AMAZING BROTP’s, but WIll and Jem take the cake. Their friendship overcomes everything, and the Infernal Devices wouldn’t be the same without them. I just love them so much.

What’d I Miss:
A book or series you were late to…

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I bought a weird paperback edition of the first three books of this series, so I put off reading them for months. It is, to this day, one of my biggest reading regrets; this series is still one of my favorites of all time.

Stay Alive:
A character you wish was still alive…

Will from Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
This book was one of the saddest books I’ve ever read, so of course, I wish Will was still alive. I was sobbing big, fat tears after he died. It’s the biggest reason why I refuse to pick up the other books in this series.

Burn:
The most heartbreaking end to a relationship…

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
This book is an eye-opener about mental health in teenagers, and the relationship between Finch and Violet shows that. While this is a sad book, it is still one that I enjoyed reading and think others should pick up too. Mental health is something people are afraid to talk about, and Jennifer Niven makes teens know they aren’t alone.

The Reynolds Pamphlet:
A book with a twist you didn’t see coming…

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This book absolutely blew my mind, and I think everyone should read it. That is all.

Thank you for taking a musical book journey, and if you would like to join the tag fun, consider yourself tagged!

I have the honor to be your obedient (bookish) servant,
