       She’s a soldier.
Noemi Vidal is seventeen years old and sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She’s willing to risk anything—including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.
       He’s a machine.
Abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, Abel has advanced programming that’s begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.
Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. Their efforts would end the fighting for good, but they’re not without sacrifice. The stakes are even higher than either of them first realized, and the more time they spend together, the more they’re forced to question everything they’d been taught was true.

My Rating: ★★★★★

Defy the Stars was an awesome sci-fi book to get into the summertime mood. (Usually, I don't say that. I usually prefer contemporaries this time of year, but this book was oddly satisfying for this time of year.) I absolutely loved the plot line and the characters that drove it.
First of all, I loved the relationship that formed between Noemi and Abel. I really liked that they didn't necessarily have a romantic relationship, but they became really close in a short time. I feel like it was way more realistic than some stories, where the main characters fall in love within a few short days.
Also, can we take a minute to talk about my LOVE for Abel? He is the squishiest, fluffiest, most lovable soul in the universe. Can I just take him home and cuddle him forever? Because I would. His soul is just so pure, I can't handle it. (I also am determined to ship Abel and Iko from The Lunar Chronicles together, and nobody can stop me.)
Overall, the plot was spectacular. I loved how Claudia Grey took the idea of traveling the world for the first time and turned it into the entire 6 (or 7, I honestly can't remember) worlds that Noemi and Abel were seeing for the first time. It was interesting to see the new worlds through their eyes as they discovered these new place for the first time.
One little thing I thought was really cool to read was how in the future, Earth could expand, and eventually become the villain. I thought I was really engaging to read about the place we've all lived for our entire lives, and see it through a new perspective.

What did you think of Defy the Stars? Let me know in the comments!

From summer vacation,
