Tour My Bookshelf!

Hello book lovers, and welcome to my crib!* While I was tidying my room this past week, I came to the realization that in over two years, I’ve never shown you guys my bookshelves. I think that because the lighting is so weird in my room, I tried to take a few pictures a long time ago, and never ended up posting them. Good news is, this girl has gotten a lot better at editing her photos and has brought you a full photographic tour of my desk and bookshelves area.
*I have no shame lol.

Welcome to my humble abode! My bookshelves can be found on the bottom half of my loft bed, along with my desk and a bulletin board. (Nothing like sleeping on a pile of books, eh?)
Before we get started, if you didn’t already know, I am very much a mood reader. When I’m in the mood for a specific type of book, that is what I have to read. This part of my reading personality is reflected heavily into how I keep my books; the stories and covers that “feel” the same to me go together. That’s why I thought it would be so much fun to show you guys my shelves. I hope you enjoy and be sure to tell me how you store your books in the comments. :)

On the lefthand side, I have a group of books on my desk.
Journals & Self-Help: I have journals for gratitude journaling, reading logs, and poetry and story inspiration. I also keep my books on poetry and feminism here as well.
TBR & Currently Reading: I keep the books I’m reading and the ones I still have to read here for easy access. (Right now I’m reading Lady Midnight, and Autoboyography and Save the Date are my physical TBR Pile. I try to read all the books in this pile before I go out and buy new books. Keyword: try.)
The top shelf features an odd grouping of books...
Middle Grade: I keep any books meant for ages 8-13 over here.
Nonfiction: These are mostly memoirs and books about bookstores. (I still have no shame.)
Shakespeare: My editions of Romeo & Juliet and Julius Caesar courtesy of SparkNotes. Having the Shakespearean text next to the modern version was great.
Misc. Contemporaries: These are all the contemporaries that don’t fit in on my right shelf of contemporaries or are an odd size.
Misc. Dystopian & Adventure: These are the dystopian and fantasy books that are too brightly colored to go on the bottom shelf.
Holiday Themed: All the books that center around winter, Christmas, and New Year’s.
The bottom shelf is my fantasy and sci-fi books:
Adventure Fantasy: These books feature quests and travel.
Dark Fantasy: Any books with darker magic and dark vibes go here.
Dystopian: All those trilogies that came out at the exact same time lol.
Sci-Fi: Most of my sci-fi books are here, except the space adventures.
(Also peep the vase that holds all my homecoming and prom corsages. <3)
My right-hand shelf houses series, contemporaries, and more sci-fi.
The top shelf is my tribute to some great fantasy series:
Harry Potter Shrine: This section houses most of the Harry Potter books, (I’m trying to buy them all second-hand. I want them to be a little mismatched and to have been loved by someone else before me. It’s the spirit of Harry Potter.) my wand from Ollivanders, and a Chocolate Frog box. (PS - I got a Lockhart card.)
The Lunar Chronicles: It’s one of my all-time favorite sci-fi/fantasy series. Unfortunately, I bought the first three books out of a Scholastic book order, so they’re REALLY short. Praying for some hardback editions to replace them.
Cassie Clare Section: This part of my bookshelf is home to The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, and soon it will also be home to The Dark Artifices (as soon as I finish the first two books).

The middle shelf holds 95% of my contemporary books.
Hardback Contemporary: To save space, I have stacked all the hardback contemporary books I own. On the bottom are my “summer” themed books, and the covers fade up according to color.
Contemporary Fantasy: Here are a couple of books that are technically fantasy books, but felt like contemporary books when I read them.
LGBTQ+: Next are a few books with LGBTQ+ romance as the main plotline.
Paperback Contemporary: All of my paperback contemporaries are kept here. They are grouped by author and then sorted based on color.
White Cover Contemporary: On the end, I have all the white, hardback contemporaries stacked together, because #aesthetic.

       On the bottom shelf,
Space & Adventure: Here I keep the more “hardcore” sci-fi books, which are mainly the ones set in space (and then the first two books of Red Queen are just hanging out. This section determined itself mostly because they’re the only tall hardbacks I have. The rest are all short.).

Whew, those are all my books! I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into my room. Be sure to let me know how you store and arrange your books, and if you would like to see more of these types of posts in the future.

Your self-appointed librarian,
Ashton

I love walking into a bookstore. It's like all my friends are sitting on shelves, waving their pages at me.
